The goal of this project is to develop a Software Requirements Specification (SRS) document and a prototype for an Active Park Assist in a vehicle for the Michigan State course CSE 435 with support from Ms. Eileen Davidson from Polestar. The Active Park Assist (APA) is a system that will allow customers to select a parking space from their vehicle using a Human Machine Interface (HMI) or from the Ford Pass mobile phone app. Once the APA system is active, the customer's vehicle will begin a parking maneuver, safely and efficiently parking the vehicle. The customer can at any time cancel the maneuver and retake control of the vehicle via brake, accelerator, or steering inputs. The Active Park Assist system will be able to automatically park in either parallel and perpendicular parking spaces. The system will control the vehicle accelerator, brake, transmission, and steering to complete the parking maneuver. This APA system will utilize high quality cameras and ultrasonic sensors to detect any obstacles in the path before executing a parking maneuver and will continue to monitor vehicle surroundings to ensure that there are no collisions while parking. The APA system will complete its function once the car has been maneuvered into the correct parking space and finishing by putting the transmission in park.
