Shafiz awarded second place in 2012-2013 Fitch Beach Outstanding Graduate Research competition

M. Zubair Shafiq was awarded second place in the 2012-2013 Fitch Beach Outstanding Graduate Research Award competition. In this competition, each of the 6 departments within the College of Engineering at Michigan State University nominates one candidate. The College of Engineering's Graduate Studies committee then selects the winner based on both their research record and a short presentation of their research.

Zubair received the B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan, in 2008. Since Fall 2009, he has been pursuing a Ph.D. degree in computer science under the supervision of Alex Liu at Michigan State University. At MSU, he has published three first-authored SIGMETRICS full papers, two JSAC papers, two INFOCOM papers, one ICNP paper, one ICSE paper, one CSCW paper, one IFIP Networking paper, and one paper in IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking. He has received numerous awards during his academic career, including a Best Paper Award at IEEE ICNP 2012, Runner-up Best Student Poster Award at ACM SIGMETRICS 2012, and Best Poster Award at the 2011 CSE Engineering Graduate Research Symposium. His current research interests include measurement and modeling, computer and network security, and networking and distributed systems.
